We are proud to be pioneering the first e-Handbook for Survivors—a groundbreaking, open-access resource designed to document and share arts-based healing practices rooted in diverse cultures and survivor-centered care.

In memory of Andrea Ruiz Costas (1985–2021), we convened a culturally diverse collective of 10 healing centers from Puerto Rico to Michigan. Together, we are preserving and sharing the hard-earned wisdom of each center’s culturally grounded approaches to trauma recovery through the arts.

A vision for global healing

Following our initial launch, we aim to expand globally—

partnering with healing centers worldwide to amplify best practices

and provide accessible, culturally informed resources to survivors

and communities in need.

Compose for Change: Healing Arts–education for empowerment

Compose for Change: Healing Arts is a powerful class series where participants become arts activists: they choose an issue they care about, research it, conduct interviews, and learn to write and speak about it with purpose and passion within a supportive community.

Through the lens of the five stages of trauma and healing, participants gain tools to understand their experiences, process emotions, and use creative expression to address pressing social issues.

Bolstered with knowledge and lived experience, they bring their stories to life through the medium of their choice, such as music, poetry, theatre, dance, visual art, handwork, or digital media.
