Compose for Change:
Healing Arts–
education for empowerment
A class series that empowers participants to become advocates through creativity and reflection. They explore a social issue they care about, research it, and develop their voice through storytelling and interviews.

As they move through five stages of healing and self-discovery, participants gain tools to process experiences and build deeper understanding both personal and collective.

Each journey culminates in an original creative work such as music, writing, movement or visual expression. This is where learning meets transformation and art becomes a force for change.

Turning lived experience into arts activism.
In this class series, participants find their voices as arts activists as they choose an issue that matters most to them, research it, and interview people about it, and learn to write compellingly about it.

They learn about the 5 stages of trauma and healing, gaining tools to understand and process their experiences while using creative expression to address social issues.

Bolstered with knowledge and experience, participants then choose an art form to express the issue they care about: compose music, a script or poem; create a dance, handwork, a slide show, or other creative artforms.
Previous participants evaluated the course as:
“cathartic, life-changing, and healing…,
the most important class I’ve ever taken.”
