Trinea Gonczar

Trinea Gonczar is Director of Engagement at Avalon Healing Center in Detroit and a nationally recognized survivor leader and advocate. A former gymnast from Lansing, Michigan, Trinea survived abuse by the now-disgraced physician at the center of the USA Gymnastics scandal. Her powerful victim impact statement has been broadcast worldwide, featured on the BBC, Al Jazeera, and World News Tonight. She is also featured in the HBO documentary At the Heart of Gold: Inside the USA Gymnastics Scandal, the NPR podcast Believed, the Audible book Twisted, and the book The Girls by Abigail Pesta, as well as Start by Believing by John Barr and Dan Murphy.

Trinea’s courage has earned her national and international recognition. She was honored with the Arthur Ashe Award at the ESPYs, the Humanitarian Award from Global Sports Development, and the Humura Award from the EDJA Foundation. Named one of Glamour Magazine’s 2018 Women of the Year, she continues to lead conversations about trauma, justice, and healing. Trinea has spoken at the United Nations Survivor Town Hall with the group RISE, advocating for the World Wide Survivor Bill of Rights, and has participated in panels and forums including Congressional hearings, international medical summits, HBO Tribeca Film Festival, Aspen Ideas Festival, and the University of Pennsylvania.

Through Healing Bells, Trinea adds her voice to a collective movement using art, storytelling, and survivor-centered collaboration to break silence, foster connection, and support global healing.
