and photographer

Mark Clague is a long-time Ann Arborite and proud University of Michigan alumnus with bachelor’s degrees in Art History and Music Performance. A leading scholar in American music, Mark has explored the power of sound to shape identity and community through his work on “The Star-Spangled Banner,” diversity in music historiography, career paths in the arts, and as editor-in-chief of The George and Ira Gershwin Critical Edition. His belief that music builds connection and helps us understand who we are fuels both his academic work and his involvement in Ni une más.
Mark joined the Healing Bells family to support a creative team united by purpose and passion, bringing his perspective on the transformative power of performance and the vital role of art-making in community healing.
“In its courageous fusion of music, dance, and narrative, Ni une más is a place where a ritual of vulnerability becomes communal understanding. It is one of those rare examples where the transformative potential of the arts truly comes to life on stage. We often talk about the arts as a force for good, but it is hard to spotlight this ‘work’ of art in action. In getting to know the cast and creative team of Ni une más, I’ve come to understand the show as a powerful argument for why art making for all is so vital to our future as a thriving, diverse, and mutually supportive community.”
