DelShawn L. T. Akpan

DelShawn L. T. Akpan grew up in the inner city of Toledo, Ohio and recently graduated with a degree in Theatre Arts and a minor in Arts and Entertainment Management at Eastern Michigan University. He has performed in EMU productions such as 365 Days/365 Plays, Hare and Tortoise, A Snowy Day and Other Stories, and [Something Between]. A committed student leader, DelShawn served as president of the Mu Alpha chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Inc., the only multicultural fraternity at EMU.

DelShawn brings to Healing Bells his passion for performing arts as a form of healing, using theatre to confront trauma, promote emotional connection, and build community. Through his leadership and presence on stage, he amplifies stories that too often go unheard.

“The reason Ni une más is important to me is because I have gone through trauma and I have family and friends who have, too. I’ve felt alone and I know that loneliness keeps us feeling isolated and keeps us from reaching out for help. Even though trauma is a hard thing to talk about, I’ve learned that if we don’t talk about it, it eats us from the inside. In this show, we’re giving a voice to the voiceless, and letting people know it’s okay to talk about it. We want to let people know we have a community and they’re not alone.”
