Alexandra Ruiz Costas
Sister of Andrea (1985–2021); Healing Bells board member

Sister of Andrea Ruiz Costas (1985–2021) and a dedicated Healing Bells board member, Alexandra Ruiz Costas is a passionate advocate for domestic violence awareness and survivor justice. Hailing from Ponce, Puerto Rico, Alexandra is a mother, life partner, and seasoned aerospace engineer with nearly 20 years of professional experience. Her deep commitment to survivor advocacy stems from the tragic loss of her sister, Andrea, at the hands of her ex-partner. Alexandra’s journey is one of healing through activism, as she strives to amplify Andrea’s voice and raise awareness about the severity of stalking, harassment, and manipulative behaviors that constitute domestic violence.
“Losing my dear sister through violence at the hands of her ex is painful. Painful beyond anything else I have felt before. But more painful is knowing that her voice was not heard. That she tried to stop what was happening to her, and the system that is supposed to protect the victims of domestic violence did not react… it did not work. As with other women before and after Andrea, the state response is weak, disappointing, revictimizing.
We owe it to Andrea to make her voice be heard, to tell her story, in hopes of creating awareness. To re-educate our minds into recognizing the severity of stalking, harassment and manipulative behaviors. That this kind of abuse being used to scare and control is indeed a form of domestic violence.
By collaborating with Healing Bells in the Ni une más production, I hope to give some justice to Andrea, which in turn will help me heal, and give me the peace that comes with that. Thank you for raising your voice. Thank you for making it relevant. Thank you for making it matter.”
