Ana Ávila

Ana Ávila is a powerful voice in storytelling against misogyny, gender-based violence, and femicide in Mexico. As a contributor to Healing Bells, she draws from lived experiences to shed light on physical and psychological violence, sexual harassment, and abuse. Ana is currently pursuing a PhD in Communication and Media at the University of Michigan, where she also served as the Marsh Visiting Professor of Journalism. Through her work, she bridges academic inquiry and emotional truth, using the healing arts to transform silence into visibility.

“I tend to rationalize everything. Often, I find myself overthinking. That’s what I did after the abuse. With Healing Bells, I could remove that rationalization, let my emotions flow, and see them transformed into music. One of the best things that could happen in the end is to translate the pain into beauty and healing. Many episodes in our lives can be painful. If we can find beauty, it helps us move from fear to healing. When connecting with emotions, sound, music, and scents, there is a transition that changes how things were into a positive energy. I never realized how healing the process could be.”
